Performance Funding is "an incentive-based
funding initiative for public higher education that financially
rewards exemplary institutional performance on selected measures
of effectiveness"*. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission
(THEC) has coordinated the performance funding initiative since
it's inception in 1978. Under this program, the University of Tennessee
can earn up to 5.45% over their operating budget. Within performance
funding, there are stated standards for several areas including
major field testing,
general education testing,
program review
and program accreditation.
